Kauri Point Centennial Park, Birkenhead – Tucked away in the middle of suburbia, this is tranquil oasis to go exploring, with shady trees, boardwalks over the wetlands, and a track to Kendall Bay, where you can jump in for a dip.

Kendall Bay is a little shelly, but it’s a delightful spot to swim and go beach combing. At the end of the beach, a steep walking track climbs up to the Western Headlands track, a 1.5hr walk that winds up back at Onetaunga Road, not too far from the car park.
