Most Known Water Tower
Overview
Hawera Water Tower - one of Taranaki’s best known landmarks – this historic tower standing 55m tall with 1340 tonnes of hand mixed concrete was completed in 1914....
Description
Prone to fire – after several devastating fires the insurance companies demanded better fire fighting facilities for the town – hence the tower was built!
In 1932 red neon lights were erected around the top as a memorial to the pioneers of the district and they remain today.
215 steps take you to the top where you get panoramic views of the town and surrounding district.
Entry is from i-site – located beside the tower on High Street.
