Welcome to our Park!  We are a small and friendly Park, ideally located right beside the Whanganui River and bordered by 23ha of primary bush.  We offer powered and non-powered sites set amongst plenty of mature trees for shade and shelter, standard cabins that are all less than 25m from the shared toilets, showers and kitchen and our most popular accommodation, our self-contained Kiwi Cottage.

You really can do it ALL from here – located in the heart of the spectacular Central Plateau, Taumarunui Holiday Park is the ideal base for all the many activities this largely untamed wilderness offers:

Start/end point of the renowned Forgotten World Highway; ride the rails with Forgotten World Adventures Rail Carts; canoe/kayak the mighty Whanganui River; walk the must-do Tongariro Crossing and lots of other great walks;  fish in some of the world’s best freshwater fishing spots;  cycle through the ancient forests of the Timber Trail;  mountain and motor biking on the 42nd traverse;  only 40mins from Tongariro National Park and the Whakapapa Snowfield; and much, much more.

We are in the centre of an outdoor, all-seasons adventure playground!

Pet Friendly

And we’re pet friendly.  We know it’s hard to leave your family pets behind – which is why we don’t mind if you bring them with you!

Phil and Helene Draper took over Taumarunui Holiday Park in Sep 2010. New to the industry and with previous military careers in the UK, Helene has brought Phil (a Yorkshireman) back to her home town following 16 years overseas.

Phil’s last job in the UK was on board the TS Royalist, a square-rig sail training ship, ending up as Captain for the last 3 yrs. Now land locked in Taumarunui, Helene is enjoying showing Phil what our beautiful Central Plateau, one of the last untamed wildernesses in the North Island, has to offer. Helene grew up in Taumarunui and trained her horses on most of the roads and hills around here, including the Forgotten World Highway and the 42nd Traverse. She left NZ in 1993 and has lived, worked in, and visited a wide range of countries, gaining a keen interest in other cultures and of course a love of camping! Phil and Helene are both widely travelled but also have extensive local knowledge – chances are we’ve been to your home and we can show you ours!

Owning a holiday park has been our dream for the last 7 years. We’ve done loads of camping ourselves and we’re putting the ideas we gained overseas into our own Park. While it’s hard work, we are loving it and we invite you to share in our growing story in this wonderful and very special part of New Zealand.
